Barry McVeigh – BSc Hon Osteopathy
Irish born Osteopath, Barry joined us in October 2010. He has over twelve years experience in treating patients, having previously completed a diploma in sports therapy and a degree in sports studies. This degree provided Barry with an in-depth knowledge of sports physiology, sports psychology, biomechanics, training principals and motor control. To add to his skills set Barry then went on to complete an honours degree in Osteopathy.
Barry's experience includes sports therapy and personal training within large organisations, health clubs and clinics. He has also worked in rugby, and in tennis he taught agility and movement training specifically to children. Barry's volunteer work includes massage therapy for paraplegic, quadriplegic and stroke patients, which he found particularly interesting. It was this experience, which gave Barry the drive to pursue a career in holistic healthcare, particularly Osteopathy. Barry's career has provided the opportunity to work in Ireland, Portugal and England before moving to Singapore.
In his personal time Barry is an avid sportsman. He is a current member of the Gaelic Dragons, Dragon boat team and enjoys cycling on a regular basis. In 2009 Barry cycled from London to Paris raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support. He also ran the New York marathon twice and enjoys the adrenaline rush of riding sports motorbikes.
French born Osteopath, Pierre joined us in 2012. He has over five years experience in treating patients ranging from newborns to elderly. He has a comprehensive background in manual therapy and sports injuries having completed a diploma in physiotherapy, a Masters degree in Osteopathy and a BSc in sports and exercise science. This rare combination in addition to his dedication to patient care has allowed his patients to describe him as a holistic and passionate practitioner.
Pierre's successful treatment approach is focused on the prevention of injuries, using his combined expertise in diagnostics, manual techniques and specific rehabilitation exercises. He also works with office staff advising them on back care and posture, providing them with specific treatment plans.
Pierre specialises in sports injuries and has treated elite and amateur runners as well as rowers and rugby players. Being a keen runner himself helps him to understand and appreciate the most common running injuries and the frustration resulting from them. These skills will be used on some of the best athletes in the world during the London 2012 Olympics Games where Pierre will be part of the medical team.
Pierre is passionate about sports and has run several long distance races and mainly enjoys marathons. As a teenager, he competed nationally in table tennis and badminton. He also loves travelling and his experiences in Spain, Canada and England have been very rewarding.
Paul has a wealth of knowledge having spent several years as a sports therapist in professional football, gaining the FA Diploma in Sports Injuries and Rehabilitation. He then went on to become a lecturer of injury treatment and rehabilitation in London.
In addition, Paul gained a certificate in Osteopathic Competency from the College of Osteopaths, London, and a Diploma in Manipulative Therapy from The Oxford School of Osteopathy.
Since completing his BSc Honours in Osteopathy, at Oxford Brooks University, Paul has opened practices in both the UK and Singapore and is the founder of The Osteopathic Centre.
He has been working in Singapore since 2004 and is a registered Osteopath in the UK and Australia.
Paul is also a qualified personal trainer, and skydiving instructor.
He has experience with many conditions, more recently he has seen a growth in the number of new born babies he sees who may have problems with refulx, colic or feeding. More common conditions Paul treats include child growth and development complaints, pre and post-natal care, muscular-skeletal issues, jaw joint problems, migraines/headaches and sports injuries.
Clare has more than twenty years experience in business. She spent her early career in corporte travel as a trouble shooter specifically within the IT industry. She then moved into marketing for one of the big four multi-national professional services firm. Clare then spent four years moving up the corporate ladder and eventually moved to Singapore where she spent another three years with the same firm.
Since leaving the corporate world in 2008, Clare has focused on growing the business at the Osteopathic Centre and was the driving force behind opening the centre in Siglap. Although more often behind the scenes you will occasionally see Clare covering the reception duties at the Siglap location.
In her spare time Clare enjoys sports, in particular cycling and the occasional triathlon although she says she doesn’t take it seriously enough to compete.
Wati’s is a Malay-Singaporean who joined The Osteopathic Centre in December 2010. She is a full-time receptionist at the branch in Siglap, on the East Coast.
Wati is fluent in both English and Malay, and has a few words of Mandarin in her vocabulary.
Wati started her career as a nurse, but after having a family, she decided that shift work did not suit her lifestyle. She re-trained and became an administrative officer for one of Singapore’s district council’s, which she did for five years.
In her free time Wati enjoys going to the beach and spending time with her husband and two children.
